Fly into San Jose airport, pass all the souvenir stores full of plush native animal toys (namely sloths) and hop in a car. 2 hours later you’ll find yourself in Uvita, a small town in southern Costa Rica, on a section of coastline known as the Costa Ballena of the Pacific Ocean, known for its Beaches national parks. Tucked away, drenched in biodiversity, where the Jungle meets the Ocean.
7500 strangers quickly become friends from Yoga class to the Dance floor. We all share a common love for music, art, experience and most importantly the environment . Workshops, Tree-planting, Earthy Beats, Fire dancers and Aerial Performers, Long Dj sets, Live Music, Talks, Permaculture, Plant-medicine, Yoga, Meditation, Yoni Healing, Massage, Costal regeneration and more.
You find yourself Camping under Banana Trees and Letting your hair down in a different way. Feeling utterly free, dancing to incredible local and international artists on stages built out of recycled and natural materials. You'll even come across a a Living Stage - a permanent structure bound by plants that climb and grow as they please, you can bet this stage looks wildly different each year. Seeing sloths and other native wildlife cruising around…Swimming at the beach… are you with me?
Next you’ll notice, a lot of bare feet on the soft sandy ground, and as you gaze slowly upwards and catch eyes with this beautiful stranger, you’ll realise they are walking around eating from a banana leave, and drinking from an empty cacao pod… Why? Well, This festival is a 0 waste event. No plastic is allowed, No Single use plates, cups or cutlery are available from food or drink stalls. You are encouraged to have your own, however they have a washing system in place where you pay a small levy to borrow reusable Plates or bowls and cutlery, and simply drop it at the washing stations.
This weekend is all about learning. Full of workshops, yoga, talks and more. Amplified music doesn’t start until the afternoon, but workshops run from as early as 7am. I felt this allowed for tremendous peace and space to stroll between the different communities, projects and surrounded by an abundance of all art forms and nature and not feel like you were mission out on something!
